Very Best Christmas Party Punch
Although it is very easy to make, your guests will love this special Christmas party punch. It requires but few ingredients and only a little time to assemble them. Your guests will love this punch and come back for seconds. Because it is very filling, a great feature of this Christmas punch is that no one will be able to drink more than two cups of it. This punch is excellent for an open house, because you can keep refilling the bowl to provide for as many as desire it.
Punch Bowl and Cups
The most important thing is a large punchbowl, preferably one that stands on its own pedestal. Begin by arranging holiday greenery, like holly springs, around the base of the bowl to give it a holiday touch. You will also need a ladle and cups to serve the punch. Clear plastic cups that will hold about 4 or 5 ounces of punch are ideal and are not expensive. They have the added benefit of being thrown away after use, making clean up easier. Since all punch bowls are not the same size, the size of yur bowl will determine the amount of punch you make.
Vanilla Ice Cream and Soda
Take a half gallon of top quality vanilla or French vanilla ice cream from the freezer and let it soften a while at room temperature. Open the package and place the softened block of ice cream in the punch bowl. Let it stand for about fifteen minutes to soften a bit more. Pour a large bottle of lemon-lime soda, such as Sprite or 7-Up, over the softened ice cream. Stir the mixture gently. Add more soda until your bowl is almost full. The block of ice cream will continue to melt in the soda making the basis of your punch.
Pour a cup or two of golden rum into the punch mix, stirring it gently. Golden rum is more full flavored than the lighter rum and makes a better tasting punch. Sample the mixture and add more rum as needed to get the taste you prefer.
Whip 2 cups of heavy whipping cream until it stands in peaks, sweeten it to taste, and float some of it on top of the punch. Save some for refills. Add a decorative pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon. As a final touch, add a stick of cinnamon to each cup.
Begin ladling the Christmas punch into the plastic glasses. You will have a long line of people waiting to sample your creation. Add more ice cream, soda, and rum as needed to keep the punch bowl full. You will need a bottomless bowl for an open house. Since it contains ice cream, you must be careful that it does not get too warm, for it could cause food poisoning. Actually you will have a difficult time keeping the bowl full, so there is little chance of its becoming too warm. Your guest will love this punch and ask for more year after year, so that it will become a Christmas tradition for your friends.
